Own It!

At S. M. Wilson & Co., each employee is accountable and must act as an owner as part of the company’s mission and values – Own It, Do the Right Thing, Pursue Excellence and Work as One.

Since 2014, the company has been 100 percent employee-owned through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).

“As an ESOP, our employees are motivated and empowered to continue building partnerships with our construction teams and project owners to deliver our unique brand of solution-oriented results,” said Michael Mangiore, CCIFP, S. M. Wilson’s Chief Financial Officer.

Founded in 1921, S. M. Wilson was a three-generation family-owned business before becoming an ESOP. Dedicated to going Beyond the Build by putting people first and leading with excellence, the company has built a reputation for providing construction management services and building strong relationships. Transitioning to an ESOP allowed employees to own a stake in the company they helped build and grow daily.

“Since the transition to employee ownership, our employees now have a more significant say in the future of our company and its success. This is a testament to our employees’ abilities and dedication. We are excited to continue our journey toward profitability and sustained growth, with each team member playing a vital role,” stated Mangiore.

Importance of an ESOP

ESOPs provide many employee opportunities and advantages, including a culture that encourages teamwork, innovation and collaboration.

“As an employee-owner, being part of an ESOP is incredibly empowering. Knowing that my hard work directly contributes to the success and growth of the company makes me feel truly invested in our collective future,” said Lisa Green, Assistant Controller, who has been with S. M. Wilson for 17 years.

Every S. M. Wilson employee is an owner vested in the company, its clients, its projects and each other. This creates a collaborative and innovative spirit.

“Being an employee-owner of S. M. Wilson is incredibly rewarding. We all have a stake in performance and the unique ability to increase the company value as we deliver exceptional projects and services to our clients. One of the many reasons I chose to join S. M. Wilson six years ago is that we are 100% employee-owned,” said Patrick Aylesworth, Director of Operations.
