Edwardsville, IL— S. M. Wilson & Co. joined Whiteside School District #115 in celebrating the start of construction on the Whiteside Elementary School Addition with a Groundbreaking Ceremony earlier this month. The event welcomed school district and community officials, along with community members.
The elementary school addition will eliminate the District’s aging mobile classrooms, which currently house the early childhood and pre-kindergarten programs, and bring these students into the main building. This improvement will also address concerns related to the mobile units, including accessibility, safety, security, and exposure to extreme weather conditions. The new addition will include six classrooms, a dedicated room for therapy and intervention services, and additional restrooms. Other site improvements will feature a new playground, secured entrances, and a reconfigured parking lot and drive lanes.
S. M. Wilson, serving as the project’s construction manager, is proud to partner with Whiteside School District #115 on several bond improvement projects, made possible by the voter-approved $10.6M referendum in 2024. FGM Architects is the design partner.
“This construction project will create a space for our youngest learners that is inclusive and provides a secure learning environment. We are excited about our partnership with SM Wilson and what they will create for students and our community,” commented Mark Huering, Superintendent, Whiteside School District #115.
S. M. Wilson Project Manager Adam Schmidt expressed enthusiasm about the project and the ongoing partnership with the district.
“S. M. Wilson recognizes the significance of these projects to the District,” Schmidt said. “We are committed to strengthening relationships and going Beyond The Build to assist the district with these improvements that will benefit current and future generations.”
