ST. LOUIS, MO – St. Louis Community College (STLCC) recently celebrated the Grand Opening of its Emerging Technology Center and Financial Services Education Center on its Meramec Campus. These new buildings are part of the college’s STLCC Transformed initiative.
S. M. Wilson, serving as Construction Manager as Agent for the project, participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony. The event was attended by the college’s administration and government officials, community leaders, students, faculty, staff and local residents. Arcturis served as the project’s design partner, with Clayco acting as the general contractor.
“The opening of the Emerging Technology and Financial Services Education Center marks a major milestone in STLCC’s transformation journey,” said Chancellor Jeff L. Pittman, PhD. “We’re proud to partner with S. M. Wilson, whose expertise and dedication helped bring these innovative spaces to life. These buildings reflect our commitment to student success, modern learning environments and the future of workforce development in our region.”
Through the STLCC Transformed initiative, these new buildings were made possible by voters who approved Proposition R in 2021 to modernize facilities at each of the college’s four main campuses. On the Meramec Campus, three buildings—Business Administration, Communications South and the library—were demolished to make space for two new three-story buildings, the Emerging Technology Center and the Financial Services Education Center.
The Emerging Technology Center hosts both new and reimagined programs and features an accessible green roof for study space. The building houses the new campus library and academic success and tutoring services. Programs include cannabis and hemp production, graphic communications, game design and development and expanded IT offerings with room for growth in new and evolving technologies.
The Financial Services Education Center is a one-stop shop for students, offering advising, financial aid and enrollment services, along with integrated technology classrooms and a testing center. The building also features a lounge area, private study bays, collaboration spaces, modern and innovative classrooms and an entrepreneurial center for hands-on learning in business and accounting. Additionally, it provides inclusive spaces for students and staff to meet, including lactation rooms and meditation rooms.
“At S. M. Wilson, we are proud of our partnership with St. Louis Community College and their vision to modernize each of their campuses for the future. Over the past two years, we have been honored to contribute to these transformative projects on the Meramec Campus,” commented Patrick Aylesworth, S. M. Wilson’s Market Executive. “With these new facilities now completed, we are excited to see them come alive with students, faculty, and staff, supporting STLCC’s commitment to innovation and excellence for generations to come.”
As a leader in construction management, S. M. Wilson has more than $2 billion in educational experience and has worked with the following higher education institutions: Lincoln University, Westminster College, McKendree University, Millikin University, Columbia College, Stephens College, Washington University, and the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
