MARION WILSON — PRESIDENT | INNOVATOR | BRAND BUILDER
Marion Wilson was one of the early Wilsonites who built our legacy, and his vision continues to move us forward.
On December 5, 1962, Marion Wilson became President of S. M. Wilson, carrying forward his father Shouse’s philosophy while ushering in a new era of innovation and design.
In the early 1980s, Marion sat at a drafting table in the Granite City office and designed a new company logo. It was intended to represent motion and forward progress, symbolizing a company that was always moving, building and advancing.
Around the same time, the company purchased a twin-engine airplane to support a major hospital project in Burlington, Iowa, a joint venture with Carl A. Nelson Construction (a firm S. M. Wilson would later acquire). With the addition of aviation to daily operations, the freshly designed logo earned its nickname: the Flying W, a mark of both momentum and ambition.
Marion’s leadership blended creativity, business acumen and a willingness to evolve. His imprint is still present today, from the moves that expanded the firm’s capabilities to the drafting desk that remains in our office, a tangible reminder of his hands-on approach to shaping the company’s future.
