City of Maplewood

New Fire Station

The new two-story fire station was built on the property just to the west of city hall along the busy Manchester Road. The previous firehouse was built in 1962 and had become functionally obsolete.

The first floor features offices, a training and multi-purpose room and fitness area. Living quarters, a dayroom, kitchen and dining area are located on the second floor. The fire station has three drive-thru apparatus bays and a training tower.

Integrating the building into the steep grade while providing a drive-thru apparatus bay and maintaining strict sustainability standards presented a significant design challenge. The mission critical headquarters is structurally hardened to better withstand natural disasters like tornadoes and seismic events and achieved LEED 4.0 Silver Certification.
