Al and Dale Miller represent a unique chapter in S. M. Wilson’s history—one where family lineage, leadership, and cultural stewardship converged to shape the company’s internal environment and external reputation. As first cousins to Scott Wilson and grandsons of our founder, Shouse McGarvey Wilson, Al and Dale carried forward a century-old philosophy into a modern era of growth.
Al Miller
Director of Safety → Director of Human Resources | Culture & People Champion Al joined S. M. Wilson in 1990 as the firm’s first full-time Director of Safety, instilling a structured and intentional safety culture that became a hallmark of our jobsites. In 2005, he transitioned to become our first Director of Human Resources, where he worked to build an empathetic, people-centered professional environment.
Beyond operations, Al shaped our philanthropic identity, chairing the annual Swinging Fore Dreams golf tournament and raising more than $300,000 for The Dream Factory of St. Louis. He retired in 2017 after 27 years of service, leaving a legacy rooted in dignity and care.
Dale Miller
Vice President | Strategic Leader | Client Experience Advocate As Vice President, Dale guided the strategic and operational direction of the firm during a highly formative era. He championed a philosophy grounded in the “Client Experience,” often noting that a project’s success isn’t measured at the ribbon-cutting, but in how a client feels years after the work is finished.
Dale’s commitment to service and quality helped cement S. M. Wilson’s reputation as a builder that leads with partnership and trust—a commitment he continues to uphold today as a member of our Board of Directors.
