Scott Wilson

Third Generation | Servant Leader | ESOP Visionary

As the third generation to lead S. M. Wilson, Scott Wilson guided the firm through one of its most defining transformations, transitioning the company to an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) and paving the way for shared ownership, shared success and shared responsibility.

Scott led through servant leadership and consensus-building, believing deeply that no leader has all the answers, but the right team, trusted and empowered, can accomplish extraordinary things. He surrounded himself with experts, listened to those closest to the work, and built a culture where respect, humility and collaboration shaped decisions. He was often quoted as saying, “cander is cool.”

Under Scott’s leadership, S. M. Wilson went from near bankruptcy to becoming one of the Top 400 contractors in the nation, proving that resilience, stewardship and long-term thinking were more than strategies, they were values.

The transition to employee ownership remains one of Scott’s most enduring contributions. By placing the company’s future in the hands of the people who build it every day, he honored his family’s legacy while ensuring that the next generation of Wilsonites could carry it forward together.

Scott Wilson was one of the pivotal Wilsonites who built our legacy and his vision continues to define who we are as an employee-owned company today.
