Fred Jaeckle joined S. M. Wilson in 1995, spending the next two decades shaping the firm’s pre-construction and estimating capabilities during a pivotal era of growth and modernization. As Vice President, Fred brought strategic rigor and technical excellence to the front end of the work, helping the company sharpen its competitive edge and strengthen client relationships.
Shortly after his arrival, Fred helped secure S. M. Wilson’s first negotiated project—a milestone that marked a fundamental shift in how the firm pursued and won work. His influence was felt far beyond St. Louis; serving as the qualifying agent in 30+ states, Fred was instrumental in expanding our geographic reach and opening doors to new markets across the country.
Although he liked to jokingly remind teams that “concrete comes in trucks,” Fred was a true construction genius and a tireless innovator. He ushered in the modern era of pre-construction and constructability at S. M. Wilson, infusing systems thinking and technical discipline into project planning to ensure buildings were delivered smarter and more efficiently.
Fred’s leadership extended deep into the industry. He was a respected voice in labor relations, serving on the AGC of St. Louis Labor Committee and the Carpenter Negotiating Team, earning a reputation for professionalism and mastery that commanded respect from peers and partners alike.
When Fred retired at the end of 2015, he left behind a sophisticated estimating operation and a company better equipped for the future. Fred Jaeckle is one of the pivotal Wilsonites who built our legacy, and his commitment to stewardship and expertise continues to move S. M. Wilson forward today.
