Safety is one of our organizational purposes. We provide our owners with quality projects, built on time, within budget and safely. It is our mission to fufill all of these values without sacrificing one for the other.

To achieve this mission we will provide our greatest assets, our people, with the best equipment and training. We empower all of our employees and provide them with the tools to perform their work safely.

We also expect every subcontractor who works on one of our projects to actively support this philosophy. We provide them with any support or technical expertise that will assist them in this effort.

Our Safety Program includes our firm's unique safety process, which details how we manage the program from the estimating and pre-construction phase through the construction of the project. Everyone on the project team has a responsibility and the authority to stop and/or modify any work activity in which a hazard is perceived.

Every project has a Site Specific Safety Plan that addresses the hazards particular to that construction project. Each scope of work is communicated and pre-planned to recognize and control potential hazards while maintaining the highest level of worker protection.

Last year, S. M. Wilson & Co. had one of the safest years in our history as we reported “Zero Lost Time Cases” while recording the largest number of man-hours worked. In addition, S. M. Wilson's EMR is well below the industry average. Having a strong Safety Program is not just a matter of good business, it is simply the right thing to do.
