 St. Louis, Mo., April 23, 2010 – S. M. Wilson & Co. has been selected to construct a new performing and fine arts center at Chaminade College Preparatory School in St. Louis. The new 80,000 square foot Skip Viragh Center for the Arts will feature two levels of facilities designed to support a wide variety of arts educational programs.
The project is being funded through a $28 million gift from the Viragh family to the school. A ceremonial groundbreaking will take place on April 26.
The ground floor will house a 1,000-seat auditorium with orchestra pit, a 150-seat block box theater, and a scene shop. Also on the ground floor will be studios for ceramics, drawing and glass teaching. The auditorium will feature an audio-visual system utilizing the latest educational technology available today.
The second floor will feature jazz and band rehearsal rooms, a graphics design studio, a photography darkroom and classrooms.
S. M. Wilson will provide general contracting services for the project. Construction is scheduled for completion in June 2011. Hastings & Chivetta is the architect, and CCS Group is the owner’s representative.
