St. Louis, Mo., March 1, 2010 – S. M. Wilson & Co. has completed the renovation of the 62,000 square foot Carolyn C. Wohl building at the Jewish Community Center (JCC) in Creve Coeur into new space designed for community gatherings and cultural events. The project also involved partial demolition of the Wohl building and the construction of new space that is connected to a new recreation complex recently completed at the JCC.
The project is the second phase of a $32 million, 154,000 square foot building program that included construction of the new recreation complex. S.M. Wilson provided construction management services for the entire building program.
Renovations to the Wohl building created a new black box theatre for community theatre group performances, as well as a new performing arts center with areas for dance classes and cultural productions. New spaces have also been added for adult day services and an expanded early childhood center. Meeting rooms and a banquet facility have been designed to accommodate the needs of large company retreats or small group meetings. In addition, a new Beit Midrash (learning center), adult education programming and administrative offices were also created.
The architecture firm for the project is Mitchell and Hugeback Architects, Inc.
The Jewish Community Center of St. Louis is a multi-generational gathering place open to everyone in the community regardless of faith, age and background. The JCC offers a variety of programs and services including educational, cultural, social, Jewish identity-building and recreational programming throughout its campuses in Creve Coeur and Chesterfield.
