St. Louis, Mo., October 21, 2009 – S. M. Wilson & Co. has been selected by the Mascoutah Community Unit School District No.19 to build a new $38 million high school in Mascoutah, Illinois. The new school will replace the District’s existing high school, and will be built directly behind the existing school facility. General contracting work on the new 273,000 square foot, two-story school building will begin immediately and is scheduled for completion in June 2011.
The overall project is estimated to cost approximately $50 million. This includes site work, furniture, fixtures and equipment, installation of information technology, security and phone systems, asbestos abatement and demolition of the existing high school.
The new high school will feature classrooms, laboratories, computer rooms, music and band rooms, a media center, two gymnasiums, cafeteria, an 800-seat auditorium and vocational training areas. Two main entrances to the school will be located at opposite ends of a center hallway. The project also includes construction of new athletic fields, as well as an expansion of the current parking lot to accommodate up to 630 student parking spaces.
Once the new school is completed, the existing school will be demolished and new driveways, parking areas and landscaping will be added to the site. Students will attend classes in the existing school until work is completed on the new school building.
FGM Architects planned and designed the project.
S. M. Wilson recently completed construction of a new high school in nearby Waterloo, Illinois.
