Kansas City, Mo., October 27, 2009 – Harris/Wilson Construction has completed construction of the new $10.3 million Olathe Medical Pavilion in Olathe, Kansas. The 43,000 square foot outpatient facility was designed and built to achieve gold level LEED certification from the U. S. Environmental Building Council for the design, construction and operation of high-performance and sustainable buildings.
The two-story Pavilion will serve as the outpatient imaging hub for Olathe Medical Center. It features five ultrasound rooms, four mammography suites, as well as MRI, CT Scan, IVP/Rad, Nuclear Medicine, Hot Lab, EKG and CXR services facilities. A Women’s Imaging Suite on the first floor includes digital mammography services, bone density testing, and ultrasound services areas.
The Olathe Medical Pavilion represents the first Kansas City area’s first ‘green’ hospital project to be completed. Factors making the project eligible for Gold level LEED certification include utilizing low Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) emitting materials such as carpet adhesives, sealants and paints to eliminate harmful vapors and improve the building’s indoor air quality. In addition, recycled materials were used throughout the building, and more than 20 percent of all materials used during construction were purchased locally.
“We’re very proud of this project, and it represents a major milestone for Harris/Wilson construction by being our first LEED eligible healthcare project,” said Todd Knight, project manager for Harris/Wilson. “We are honored to help Olathe Medical Center meet its green goals.”
ACI/Boland was architect for the project. Construction began in September 2008.
